E.T. reunites with Elliott, but sadly it's just for an advert

The two-minute film - which runs to a longer, four-minute version in the U.S. - sees the adorable alien return to Earth to reconnect with his old friend, learning about all of the world's new, advanced technology in the process. He calls him E.T. and slowly introduces him to his family: brother Michael (Robert MacNaughton), sister Gertie (Drew Barrymore), and mother Mary (Dee Wallace).

When you woke up this morning, we bet you didn't expect to see an official E.T. sequel-but that's kind of what's happened, just in a slightly unconventional, very commercial way.

It did take a company like Xfinity to bring E.T. back to screens in 2019, even if screens today mean smaller screens at home. "It's really a win-win", the actor said in a statement.

Now, nearly 40 years later, E.T. and his old pal Elliott finally reunited - in a new commercial for Xfinity. Thomas also said that Spielberg was apparently on board for the commercial, "because the integrity of the story isn't lost in this retelling".

It's been 37 years since the release of "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial".
