Bryant was killed on Sunday when the helicopter he was flying in crashed in Calabasas, Calif., with news that his 13-year-old daughter Gianna was also on the plane. Bryant married wife Vanessa Bryant in 2001 and the couple had four children. The cause of the crash is now unknown.

He teamed with Shaquille O'Neal in a combustible partnership to lead the Lakers to National Basketball Association titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Authorities confirmed that five people died, with no survivors.

Born in Philadelphia, Bryant was drafted to the National Basketball Association straight out of Lower Merion High School near Philadelphia in 1996. The Hornets then traded him to the Los Angles Lakers.
