The Canadian virtuoso's beloved Fazioli piano was the only one of its kind.

She brought the piano to its maker in Italy, Paolo Fazioli, who said that the instrument could not be saved. In a post lamenting the damage, Hewitt described the piano as "my best friend, best companion". "I loved how it felt when I was recording - giving me the possibility to do anything I wanted".

"The piano movers came into the control room (where I was finishing up with my producer) to say they had dropped my precious Fazioli concert grand piano", she said.

"The movers of course were mortified. In 35 years of doing their job, this had never happened before", Hewitt wrote on Facebook. "At least nobody was hurt".

The damage was so great from the drop that its lid split in half.

Warriors deal Russell to Wolves for Wiggins
The kicker is they could be getting a top-five pick by virtue of being one of the worst teams in the league this season. Wiggins' first basket as a Warrior came with 3:52 left in the first quarter on a triple from the left corner.

All of her European recordings since 2003 were performed on her Fazioli F278 concert grand piano, which was the only one in the world to have four pedals.

Hewitt wrote that it made no sense "financially or artistically" to rebuild the piano - it was simply "kaputt".

Hewitt said she kept the piano at her home in Italy and had used it for nearly all her recordings over 17 years.

But as the world-famous pianist from Canada waited for her movers to haul away the hulking instrument, they tiptoed into the control room and told Hewitt they had some hard news to break.

"They say once you play a Fazioli, you see that pretty much all other pianos you have to beat the sound out of the piano".

Academy announces how it will remember Kobe Bryant at the Oscars
In the summer of 2003, Bryant , then 24, was accused of raping a 19-year-old woman in a Colorado hotel room. The superintendent also noted that he would be taking over as principal of the school in the meantime.

Simon Markson, managing director at Markson Pianos in London, told CNN he thought a £150,000 ($194,000) estimate of the piano's value if it were new was accurate.

Hewitt said she will choose a new Fazioli in the next few months.

"This was a piano that gave back as much as you put into it, and then challenged you for more", she wrote.

"Indeed, her instrument was the only existing one with this peculiarity", wrote Turrin: "This represents a huge loss for Mrs. Hewitt". In 2007, a concert grand piano worth £45,000 fell out of a lorry. He estimated that a top-tier, custom-made Fazioli grand piano would cost somewhere between just under $200,000 to $250,000.

Hewitt said it could be several months before she receives a new piano. She said she is confident she will find another piano to make her own.
